The American River Resort is a camping, RV and vacation rentals site nestled in a natural oak forest along the South Fork American River on Hwy 49 in Coloma, El Dorado County, California. 30 wooded river-front acres on the American River. Classic camping atmosphere for family camping and group camping.
Anyone you ask has a different reason for camping. Some like to disconnect from technology and reconnect with nature. Some families go camping to revitalize their relationships away from all the distractions at home. Many youth organizations teach young people how to build a fire, pitch a tent, or read a compass.

Surrounded by nature, the American River Resort offers a variety of camping options from the "back to basics" campout to a full set-up riverfront platform cabin tents with cots and chairs. So, get out under the stars and the oak trees, pitch your tent and enjoy all of the amenities the Resort has to offer.
These sturdy, watertight canvas tents are handmade in Montana. They sit on raised wooden platforms with deck railings and chairs overlooking the American River. Inside, you will find comfortable cots and sleeping pads set up, so all you need to bring is your sleeping bags, blankets, and pillows. The platform cabin tents are located a stone's throw from the river and are by far the best riverfront cabin tents on the American River. Each cabin tent camp area also comes with its own picnic table and private fire pit.

We had a wedding there for my best friends daughter. It was beautiful, with the American River and mountains the backdrop. There were 4 cabins rented out for the bridal party for several nights. They all had ample space for families as well as a basic kitchen.stove, microwave, refrigerator, air conditioner, bathtub and shower. In summer months there are also several great places to put up tents for outdoor camping.

The best rafting company out there. This was my second time using them and everything was just as awesome. The first time we had Michelle as our guide, she knows what she is doing and makes everything fun and exciting. We requested her this time around, but we got Christian instead. He was just as Awesome, fun, and hilarious Our group of 5 girls had the boat to ourselves which was great also. I HIGHLY recommend this company and ask for either Michelle or Christian, you wont regret it.

It was our first time with American river resort company and I would say they did their best to make the trip fun and comfortable for their guests. We took full day river rafting trip and our guide/coach Rich was amazing. He kept educating and entertaining thru-out the trip and did not let it become boring at any given time during the 6 hour expedition.
Food during the lunch break was very well administered with adequate precautions for social distancing. I would definitely recommend this company and revisit them again. I also liked the pictures taken by their staff and option to purchase for all the picture at very nominal price.

I updated and edited this review from 2 to 3 stars because the river rafting was really top notch. I would happily raft here again. The guides were friendly and experienced, the float was great, scenery was gorgeous, and everything was well organized. My original criticisms are still legit; we were frustrated by the booking oversell ("on the river" was not on the river), the women's restroom facility condition, the uncontrolled campers blasting music and lights after dark, and the high price for the campsite. I would come again to raft and might camp again just for the convenience to the rafting.

We had a lot of fun with our family of four. The sites near us were pretty small but the campground was clean and well maintained. The bathroom near us had veeeery small stalls and I'm not sure a larger person could have fit inside and one of the 2 urinals was out of order and the flushing was very weak leading to walking into some nasty surprises every now and then but they're was a larger, nicer bathroom up the hill if you weren't afraid to walk (or it's not a coffee emergency!). Otherwise, the general store was nice, lots to do with a little gold country historic town about 10 min walk down the road and the American river steps away, plus fishing in a little pond. Close location to Sacramento if you're looking to get away but not drive to Tahoe or something.

Our family had a Great time at the American River Resort. The staff was very friendly. The large group campsites close to the River was a perfect size and location for a hot weekend. The guided Whitewater Rafting was AWESOME for our first time, Nick the guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. We'll return next summer and recommend friends & family to join next trip.
