Reverend Jeff Ownby is an ordained, Christian minister and Pastor of Pinnacle Bible Church in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Jeff is a Gatlinburg native involved in this ministry for more than 30 years and has been performing specialized wedding ceremonies in Gatlinburg for over 21 years. Above the Mist is the brainchild of Reverend Jeff Ownby.

The absolute worst experience ever DO NOT USE THEM. I booked Above the mist in JUNE 2021, for my October 2022 wedding, being over a year an advance you'd think they'd be prepared. I live out of state and it was supposed to be a destination wedding, They gladly took my deposit, and we corresponded multiple times through email as it started to get closer to my date, I planned to send my invites and we never set a time for the wedding so I reached out, I got response to send my invites for 4 pm.
I then received an urgent email that they needed to talk to me as soon as possible, by the way at this point I had sent over ideas for the cake, flowers and more for the wedding. I asked to speak to the representative who I dealt with initially signing the contract, and the woman Megan informed me that she was no longer with the company. She also informed me in APRIL that this woman that works for Above the Mist doubled booked my wedding date so I had no venue or date anymore.
Not sure how that happens but all I heard were excuses. Talk about a nightmare. Then she proceeds to say we can just move the date, I refused, after I've had guests already book their airbnbs and sent save the dates out. There was No apology or anything, just that "covid" caused staffing issues and blaming it on the girl they fired. Then I'm on the phone with her speechless in my living room in one of the biggest cities in the United States and she says that my phone is breaking up and she cant hear me.
I tried calling her back and no answer, at this point I knew they just didn't want to deal with the mistake they made. I was absolutely appalled and in tears because of how poorly they handled the situation and not letting me know after once again I booked my venue LAST JUNE. They claimed they tried to call me and "had the wrong number" and sent me emails in November, I found one email in November in my spam folder, but as a good business practice you'd think they'd do whatever they could to contract you and not just take your money.
Also the fact that there were multiple people I was emailing about planning the wedding and we were all under the assumption it was happening. I called the next week before speaking to my attorney to have someone call me back, the receptionist said she would give them my number and Stacy would call me, well Stacy never did. The decided to email me one day after my attorney sent the letter to them to refund me, asking if I wanted my money back.
Like that was even a question? Above the mist is very disorganized and does not communicate thoroughly with their staff. October is a VERY busy time of year and less than 6 months out from my wedding they decided to tell me that I have no date, no venue and that it was someone else's fault. I decided to search for another venue and thank God I found Mountain Mist Farms (10000% recommend) they have been a breeze to work with and SO organized and timely even now that we have to rush.
After about two months I JUST received my deposit back from June 2021. After multiple correspondences via email that I'm NOT changing my date or interested in working with them, and after our attorney reached out to them twice (which they never responded to either). This is an unacceptable business practice, and I hope this review saves you and your money. If you want to stress out, have poor communication, and get doubled booked, go with Above the Mist.

We loved our experience with Above The Mist Wedding and Events. Although it did storm on our big day, they were able to make all of our mountain wedding dreams come true. Everything was planned in advanced and nothing was done without prior approval from us. They were super easy to work with and very accommodating especially with us being an out of state couple.
We loved our minister who even spoke with each of us before the wedding to help make the ceremony more personable. The photographer we had was also amazing and was able to get us our pictures not only at the chapel but also had the mountain top venue we had wanted. It was truly the wedding of our dreams and we cannot recommend them enough.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this place! They have a great team and something special going on here. I am very picky with high expectations. I'm not difficult, but direct. I know what I want and articulate that. As a matter of fact, after consulting with Flower Mountain Weddings prior to finding Above The Mist, I was assured they could customize my micro wedding.
Long story short, they got frustrated anytime I wanted to ask questions or depict my vision. I am so grateful things didn't work out there because this view is even better, and the team and their attitudes to please you and work to make your dreams come true is unmatched! The floral person (I think her name is Megan) is talented and creative! I worked with Stacey and she was sweet and made sure everything I requested happened.
I met Brittany and she was awesome as well. Tosca, the photographer is simply amazing! I had already hired my own photographer, but had I not, I would have loved to have had Tosca. She is energetic, creative, bubbly, and sweet! I have seen her work and she does beautiful photos. I also brought my Associate Pastor from my church to marry me, but I had the pleasure of meeting Pastor Jeff when I was viewing the venue.
He is the one person I'd feel comfortable with marrying me that I don't know personally. Destiny helped on my wedding day and she was very patient and kind as well as helpful. Oh and they got Becca for me who is a wonderful violinist. She played so beautifully! Again, I cannot say enough positive things abut this place! I honestly never thought I'd find what I was looking for and get all that I did. This is the real deal A-Team!

Absolutely amazing! Everything was amazing. I so highly recommend anyone to go ahead and do it. I won't ever regret going this route. They were so kind, and outgoing. Very well communicated with me. Made me feel like I mattered. I would do this again and come back here anytime. The view was beautiful the preacher was amazing as well as the staff. If you're thinking about it. Don't think and do it! Promise you won't regret it!

My husband I were blessed to be an Above the Mist couple and I must say they made everything a breeze! From the moment I found their website until the day of, everything ran smoothly. Leah was a joy to work with as she was very attentive and answered any and all questions we may have had. Tosca was amazing and her attention to detail was spectacular.
She truly captured our love in each and every photo! If you want a customized wedding/elopement with photos that will far exceed your expectations, please give them a call. You will not be disappointed! My husband and I highly recommend you give them a call!

The team went above and beyond our expectations! My now husband and I live in Michigan and we planned our entire wedding during the Covid-19/Quarantine restrictions with never seeing the venue in person until the day before the wedding. They were very professional and experienced, they didn't let anything fall between the cracks. The team was always happy to answer every question I had.
They had great communication skills and made it easy to coordinate my needs with the catering, florist, bakery/cake, DJ, organizing liens, setup/seating and decorations. Plus they did all the work for us which was such a load off our shoulders since we live so far away. The day of the wedding we had a beautiful bridal suite to get ready in. Our wedding coordinator, Jozy, was so helpful and in-control of the day which made it so easy for me to just enjoy and be in the moment.
The Ceremony went smoothly and Rev. Jeff was great, but still down to earth, which was exactly what we wanted as our atmosphere! I am so grateful to have met him! The view was breathtaking, our photographer did an amazing job and our pictures turned out great. but to see the view in person is the only way to understand the beauty! The DJ, Robert Sword, from Sword Sounds - Mobile DJ Services, was a blast and kept the party going all night!
He was also always checking in on us, making sure we had everything we needed! He made our night! I was so happy with him, he was a very genuine, personable and talented! Our experience was exactly what we wanted for our wedding day!
