In the 60's and 70's it was a cattle ranch. In 1972 we created the lake. Richard and Jane dreamed of retiring here on the place and making it a private park. Unfortunately in 1981 Richard was diagnosed with a type of radiation-caused leukemia. Richard was a Korean War Vet who was exposed to radiation during an atomic bomb test in Nevada in 1951.
The Creekside area is a wooded area set along a natural creek and can handle about 250 people. This scenic area has very tall trees, a small pond, a creek that runs right alongside the ceremony area and a large lawn area. The Lakeside area is on the south side of the lake and can easily handle 350 people.
80 chairs, 10 six ft across tables with linens that seat 10 each, so with 10 tables and 80 chairs you have two extra tables for gifts and cake! A dressing room, an arbor, a very nice covered area that can seat at least 130 with a dance floor area, built in buffet tables, water, BBQ, electric power and very nice, tiled flushing restrooms all come with each area.
Disc Golf Course Review has rated our Meadow Ridge course among the top 25 courses out of 4,600 worldwide! Highland Course - is a challenging pitch and putt course with shorter distances between the tee pad and the basket. The course is great fun for families! This place is nice with tall green trees and a small lake. They have lots of peacocks and peahens at the entrance, which is really unique. But at $5 per person it is a bit pricey. The lake is not that clean. If you are a disc golf enthusiast then this may be a good place for you. But otherwise there are cheaper picnic spots near a lake setting around Portland.

Horning's Hideout is a breathtaking place! I had a privilege to perform live music for wedding ceremony and reception on 06.24.22 here. Highly recommend it for weddings, events, birthdays or just to visit! Totally unforgettable experience!

Beautiful place to visit. We took our grandchildren to the lake to catch a fish, and they caught 6 in under 20 minutes! My daughter caught a quick one as well, and they were all a good enough size to eat then for lunch. It was a little deflating to have the experience over so quickly, and it was a little pricey to be able to go very often, but overall we had a good time.

What a beautiful venue! And their name says it all! Would never know a beautiful venue existed In North Plains. The venue has 3 event sites based on your guest list and is perfect for nature lovers! The entrance includes beautiful peacocks to greet you and the drive in feels like your in a fairyland with all the lush green surrounding you. I'm happy I got to experience this place while celebrating family friends tieing the knot!

Love this place! The trout lake is a great place to take novice fishers to catch their first trout! They have all the gear you need and it is included in the fishing price. Just pay for the fish you catch! No catch and release here!

DO NOT BOOK THIS PLACE FOR YOUR WEDDING! Bob Horning is an absolute dick - he swore at women in our wedding party for putting tables on the grass area (that was reserved for tables). He will ride around in his golf cart telling people what they can and can't do the entire time, constantly contradicting the contract he provided. The venue is also unkept and muddy in August/September.

Love taking the kids here for a quick trip. Don't always have the time to go somewhere for the whole day. Don't always wanna get up real early. This is simple, especially with young ones.

Played the Hornings Hideout Meadow Ridge disc golf course and it was beautiful. Very nice, challenging, fun and well maintained. I highly recommend it if you're a disc golfer. Parking is $5 well worth it. I look forward to coming back and playing again.

Horning's Hideout is the perfect place to have your wedding! The natural beauty of the venue is what makes this place so unique. Everywhere you look there is something interesting to see. So many of our guests were impressed and in awe with the venue. Bob is courteous and responsive in making sure that you have what you need and that your questions are answered.

He truly values you having a good experience and that you don't need to worry about the planning process venue wise. If you want an off the grid woodsy wedding, pick this place! We treasure this place and would choose it all over again! pc: emileesetting

What a great outdoor venue to celebrate in! We even witnessed a man, who we can assume is the owner, feeding a pair of bald eagles on the lake at the end of the day. Would recommend if you're into the outdoors. Clean facilities and well setup but if your not into "dirt" I would recommend not going here.

Well, where to start. I tent camped here over the weekend with my 4 year old grandson. The place is gorgeous ok! However; I never knew the tent sites were walk in! Can you imagine with a 4 year old? I nearly had the kitchen sink with me! Hauling all of our camping stuff up a 45 degree embankment and then some; I was exhausted. Not to mention our campsite was apparently at the crossroads of many a trail leading to other campsites.

We had overly inebriated individuals walking through our campsite at all hours of the night! They were even smoking! OMG- taboo here at Hornings! Do not tent camp here if you think of tranquil quiet settings in a forest! Weddings, receptions and guests of those partying and sharing all of their music til the wee hours of the morning! I got no sleep in the two nights I was there!

The night of three weddings there was conflicting music from each venue shouting at one another from afar; the tent campers in the middle! Then, to top it off. our 4 30'ish guy neighbors played nirvana at the top of their speaker range till after 3 AM! And walked and talked through our campsite like they were at Disneyland! We had beer cans in our campsite in the morning. Hornings is day use only for me!

Great scenery, fishing and paddle boats! If you're going to fish, since every cast you get a fish, plan on no more than 10 minutes! Otherwise, you end up with way too many farmed trout! Fun place; just don't plan to camp if you enjoy sleeping at night! The weddings and receptions looked nice though, but I didn't get invited!

I rented a site here for my wedding. The grounds are absolutely stunning, which made for some really great pictures. I had so many compliments from our guests on what a beautiful place it is. We loved the option to camp, which allowed us to party into the night with our friends. Bob was great to work with, and made us feel very welcome and comfortable at the property. Highly recommend this venue for anyone who is looking to host an event.

The place is beautiful but the customer service is lacking. I came here October 2020 to view the location for my wedding. Bob was very nice and showed us the different locations. I was super excited and decided this was the place I wanted my wedding. Fast forward to June 2021. I was told to wait until June 1, 2021 to book my October 7, 2023 wedding. June 1, 2021- Reached out to Bob about a half hour after they opened.

At first he sounded real pleasant. He even joked about my caller ID name because it says, "Hello, I am calling." Then when I asked to put my deposit for October 7, 2023, his voice changed and he sounded slightly annoyed. He advised me to send an email and they would send me a quote. I said okay and sent an email. I called the next day because I still hadn't received a quote, no answer.

I called again 2 days later, still no answer. I left a message asking for a call back and if they received my email. Waited a week and called again, no answer. June 28, 2021- Still no quote, email, or call back. I sent an email this morning stating I no longer need a quote since apparently they don't want my business. I am now back to square one on wedding venues and it stinks because this was the venue I really wanted.

I gave 3 stars because the place is gorgeous. I took 2 stars because I feel like I was made to feel like my wedding isn't important because the date is far out. Also for he lack of communication with me and the rudeness when I said my wedding date. Update: I feel like an a-hole. I didn't realize there was so much going on with the owner of the venue.

He was nice enough to email me and explain. So I gave the 2 stars back. I may still have my wedding here given the fact he explained and gave me quote. I honestly, didn't want to look for another venue and I fell completely in love with this one. Thank you Bob!

Super great place to take kids! Clean bathrooms, water seems very clean and staff was very nice! We caught tons of fish and kids also enjoyed getting salomanders. We donated the fish we caught :-.

If you consider North Plains as part of the Portland metro area, then this is hands down the best place for beginner disc golfers within Portland, in terms of scenery and variety. 3 courses for different skill levels. Very woodsy, earthy, forested courses. One of them has a hole where you throw your disc across a pond. My partner said that was the easy course, but it's challenging for a newb like me.

Bring an extra disc and a towel! During covid times, there weren't a lot of people, so that is a big plus. It's $5/pp and you can play disc golf all day. Watch for the peacocks and peahens, they are a hoot!

I go for the golf. disc golf that is. This may be one of the most beautiful fun course in the northwest. I will warn you, make sure to bring some old discs you don't mind losing. the courses have some very difficult holes with water hazards. I have parted with a disc or too. I try to take a few minutes alone to have a final moment with the disc before I throw it so the loss is not as bad.

For other discs they hit so many trees I place them under by car seat as an air freshener after my rounds. for 5 dollars to play all day you can do all three courses if you are prime shape!

I absolutely loved this place! It was my first time visiting and we enjoyed our stay. Bob was awesome! Very clean bathrooms and well stocked, beautiful lake, and walking paths. I learned how to play disc golf! My son enjoyed walking around and seeing all the peacocks and chickens. Bob allowed us to show up the same day for two day camping. We will definitely be coming back hopefully to have our wedding! Its a beautiful area. One of our steaks to our tent got left behind the soil was very strong and we couldn't get it out, sorry Bob! We enjoyed ourselves, thanks Bob!

I am totally disappointed with this place. I went to take my son fishing and not only did I not see any season closed signs whale driving up their drive way, but they also took $20 for two passes with out giving me $10 back in change. Management is a total joke, once I complained they refused to give me my money back and began to accuse me saying that there was signs up and that I should have read them.

Then while leaving the premiases the owner stood in front of the exit wanting a confrontation which I was not going to do with my disappointed son in tow. After I said I was going to leave a bad service review. Take caution everyone. This place does not support Hispanics or people who are transgender.

Bob was excellent to work with and the venue was everything we had imagined and more. The website is a bit outdated but I was blown away with how beautiful the venue was in person. Bob runs a tight ship and is helpful in all aspects of wedding planning. We made the leap for a destination wedding and booked Horning's Hideout Creekside sight unseen, it was a fantastic decision and I have not had a moment of regret.

16 hours ago Only addressing as a Wedding Venue. POSITIVE attributes. Private. Rustic but bathroom are good. Settings are all beautiful in their own ways. Blank canvas. Nice plants hanging flowers NOT SO GREAT No cell phone service. Totally everything except table, chairs, tablecloths must be hauled in and out. Running water isn't drinking quality. STEEP drive/walk ways. Brides room primitive.poor lighting Another thing to bring in hang take down lights.

Walk way to bathroom is unlight and very dark. Not very safe for older people or those with poor vision. Owner is intense in his rules but other sites music was on after midnight so rules not universal. VERY BEST QUALITY there. Kelly the SIL who does wedding coordinator Now she gets a 6 star review!

Our daughter's wedding was at Horning's Hideout at Lakeside venue and it was perfect. Staff (Kelli and Bob among others) did as promised and more. We've never had better service and the setting was beautiful. Truly a magical place. Very nice facilities too. We intend to go back just for picnic. Looks like it would be great for corporate events too. Wonderful wonderful wonderful.

It's so nice to be out in nature and all you can hear is the stream in the distance, the blowing of the win through the old trees and the sound of your feet on the earth. What a wicked awesome day I had playing some disc golf. Played the canyon course and was super fun/ worth it. There were some challenging holes and a lot of places to work with your mid range/ throwing putters. Looking forward to playing the other two courses the next time I come.

Super convenient "pay to stay" parking meter which took your card. I was a little worried that I was going to have to pay my $4 in change! $4 for each person you bring down. Will for sure be back with some friends ready for a full day of disc golf + some lunch.

Extremely rude and unreasonable staff. Would give negative stars if i could. The owner is rude and doesn't really care for the paying visitors. It is the owner's fault if the signs to private areas are not easily visible, especially when public visits to watch wild peacocks roaming freely. There are various ways to let people know about the off limit areas, but insulting them is not one of them, especially when: 1. its owner's fault that the signs are not clearly visible. (I was told that there two signs, one of which i still couldn't see, and the first one i had to walk very close to the said property to notice.) 2.

Wrong choice of placement of signs. No sign in obvious areas from where you'd enter. 3. No clear de-markation between public and private space and lastly 4. When you charge people to visit the area. Do not go there. Save your time and energy.

This place is a disc golf mecca. I spent a morning up here with a friend to play a round. There are 3 18-hole courses including a very difficult gold-tee course. We opted for the gold-tee course and paid dearly. We had a blast though. The course is very well laid out and offer a variety of challenges. Almost every hole involved throwing through a patch of heavy forest with some elevation change.

Most baskets were perched on a hillside so even the putts were a challenge. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to enjoy the lovely lake and other amenities during my visit but they seemed very pleasant. This is a little island of utopia in the hills outside of Portland. Loved it!
