What happened to the quality? I hadn't been to Susan Lawrence for about a year and stopped by yesterday while in the area. The $15 belly bomber cinnamon babka was inedible - a dense, cloying, mess of sugar and cinnamon, virtually devoid of cake. The $11 shrimp summer spring rolls need to be renamed "rice noodle rolls" since 90% of the filling was rice noodles, with very little shrimp and a few specks of carrot. I could barely choke it down. Terrible food at high prices, which appear to have increased by 30% over the past year. No thanks!

Laura at Susan Lawrence is amazing! She truly saved the day. I wanted something really special as a favor for my daughter's post wedding bridal shower. Due to COVID we were unable to have her shower last year and we wanted to make it super special. Laura from Susan Lawrence helped me make this happen. They sell Harney and Sons and Laura ordered 24 of these tins, wrapped them beautifully and as an added touch they made cookies that looked just like my daughter's adorable poodle.
The favors were extra special and the cookies were delicious! Laura also really came through when the venue for the shower at the last minute told me they were unable to make the cake they promised for the shower. Laura asked the pastry chef, who was already overextended, if he could help and he went out of his way to make the most delicious and beautifully decorated cake with my daughter's favorite flower, hydrangeas, on the cake. They really helped make my daughter's shower an extra special event that my daughter said she would remember forever!

Deceptive branding! I bought their Susan Lawrence chips thinking that they were made in house because of their packaging. When I opened the nice bag with the Susan Lawrence logo, low and behold there was a regular bag of chips inside. I wound up paying $7.95 for a bag of regular store chips. Don't fall for this bull.

Thank you for the team at Susan Lawrence for making my party so special. Special mention to Paul, the baker for the amazing cake. And to the manager Carmine for helping me out with a last minute problem which he so thoughtfully helped me to solve! The baked goods are so amazing and they are my go to source for cakes and other goodie.

Susan Lawrence sells sandwiches, salads, small entrees, and most prominently, the baked goods. It's predominantly a French inspired upscale patisserie with some added foods to round out the menu. It's a beautiful store centrally located on the main street in Chappaqua. Every Christmas Eve, the Clintons, who live in the town, will come to Susan Lawrence (among other local favorites) to pick out something for the holidays.
If you stick around long enough, you'll definitely see them. Susan Lawrence is a reliable neighborhood staple. Compared to other nearby patisseries, I rank Susan Lawrence above Jean Jacques (Pleasantville), but significantly below La Tulipe (Mt. Kisco). I've purchased many items from the Susan Lawrence menu over the years, but most recently had their opera cake for an Easter celebration. Thin layers of almond cake alternating dark chocolate and coffee buttercream. Light, rich, texturally diverse, and satisfying without being overtly sweet.

Susan Lawrence catered a tea party for my delayed bridal shower this past weekend. We got a variety of food, which was wonderful! We regularly get cakes from here as they are so great but they really went above and beyond in designing this tea cup cake. This cake was not only beautiful but delicious. It is worth mentioning that it was 91 degrees and we are over 20 minutes from Susan Lawrence so we were worried that the cake would melt- but they put such care into creating the cake and ensuring that it got to our house just fine! Thank you so much!

Everything I have bought from here is incredible. The store is beautiful and the staff is LOVELY. I don't know where they found such polite and positive people to work the counter-- but they all need raises to deal with the downright snotty clientele. Buttermilk scones are to die for. Each and every coffee cake has been scrumptious beyond belief. You are doing a tremendous job Susan Lawrence! Don't ever change.

Two stars for service (five for the great croissants and coffee). We are moving to town in a few weeks and I needed a place to work outside while my child was at school and our house is not yet ready. While they currently allow outside seating, they would not allow a pregnant customer to use their bathroom "because of the virus." Seriously? We are all masked and gloved in the shop anyway. Thankfully, the nearby Starbucks and bookstore were both much more humane and understanding of us all trying our best during this time. Susan Lawrence won't be seeing much of my family and friends when we soon move nearby.

Was in Chappaqua for a doctors appointment and stop in for a pick me up in these challenging times. I love this place and usually stop in when in the neighborhood for a coffee and Ruggelach And to buy birthday cakes. Pricey but well worth it. Today I thought I'd treat myself to a coffee and send some goodies to my kids I could not visit because of this virus.
Well the manager offered me a free cake. I know that sales are down and they are giving product away to avoid waste but it was such a nice unexpected treat that it made my day. Thanks. Please support your local businesses and stop in.

I used to work in Chappaqua and passed by Susan Lawrence almost daily during my commute. I think I might have had a cake or something from them back in the day but for the most part I was unfamiliar with their offerings besides their baked goods. I always remembered this place though, and since one of my colleagues lives close by I arranged with her to pick up some sweets for a little celebration we were having at work.
Not only did this easily provide baked goods, but I got to rediscover Susan Lawrence. Susan Lawrence sits on the main commercial strip of Chappaqua; with its somewhat upscale aesthetics, and Westchester mom-filled dining area, it perfectly fits in with its surroundings. In addition to baked goods, they also offer sandwiches, wraps, and other savory quick-service offerings.
My colleague picked up a variety of their baked squares - chocolate walnut brownies, chocolate truffle brownies, chocolate peanut butter brownies, mint-chocolate brownies, raspberry bars, lemon bars, rainbow cookie bars, cheesecake squares, and some rugelach. Mostly everything I tried was tasty - my favorites were the raspberry bar, lemon bar, and chocolate walnut brownies.
The weakest of the bunch for me were the rainbow cookie bar and the rugelach (hot tip: don't get ethnic baked goods from a non-ethnic bakery). Overall, I thought Susan Lawrence put out a good offering (based off what I tried at least). While it's not the cheapest place nor the most destination worthy, it serves its purpose in Chappaqua and offers a wide variety of dishes for the locals.

Hard to describe other than its a one of a kind gem! Filled with unique and delicious items I haven't seen much elsewhere, even in the city. It is clear they make items to the best and highest standards. They have such a great selection of prepared foods and cakes that always changes with seasons and holidays too. It's best to go in and pick out what "speaks" to you.and a lot of things will! It's definitely pricey, I think of it more of as a treat every once in a while. So I savor every bite/dollar spent =o. Grab a ticket number on the right-hand side table, it can get busy in there quickly.

This spot took my eye because of it's very well decorated insides and outsides, and the very aesthetic looking baked goods offered. However, I wish the baked goods tasted as good as the store looked. This location also sells baguettes, breads, and foods such as pasta, guacamole, and etc, so I'm not sure if it qualifies as a bakery or not.
I have bought my fair share of treats here: a cake, cupcakes, and cookies. All of them were quite underwhelming for the price and this bakery's reviews. The fondant decorated cakes were gag-inducing. I love cake and have had a large number of cakes before, and none of them were as bad as the vanilla bean fondant cake I bought. After eating some of the buttercream and fondant, I threw up 3 times in my bathroom (TMI? probably, but I'm unfiltered) just because of how gross it tasted.
It was literally vomit-inducing, as well as over-priced for its size and taste ($28 for a cake with about an 8 diameter). The actual cake was extremely dry, but it was better than the buttercream and fondant (but at that point, anything was). I had bought a cupcake from the store because I thought they were very cute and thought that it was worth a try after my previous bad experience.
The base was quite good, but the frosting on top was too sweet, which gave me a nauseous feeling and left me feeling uncomfortable. For $1-2, I was hoping for a better cupcake. However, the cookies I bought were very delicious (I didn't get it with any frosting, I learned my lesson with frostings from this place). A tad more on the expensive side, but overall totally worth it cause they were absolutely scrumptious. I would most definitely get cookies here again! The cupcakes? Perhaps. The cakes? 0% chance of getting fondant cakes again. Maybe I will get one without fondant someday.

I know there are great things in Chappaqua besides the fact that the Clintons live there :. But this place is definitely one of the great things about Chappaqua. The place, the people, and the pastries are absolutely wonderful. While there my first time, I met this wonderful woman who kind of walked me through everything there. No wonder she has been in the area for decades and loves Susan's. Needless to say I also met this toddler and her mom, sweet people.
The point is, there is more than just pastries at Susan's. If you're ever in the area, you MUST try this place out. I highly recommend you do so. I know I'll definitely stop by the next time I'm in the area. Keep it up, #Susan Lawrence.

A special gourmet cake for Mom's 94th bday, and it was AMAZING! Layered fresh strawberries with light, fluffy, airy vanilla cake with plenty of fresh cream filling. Not overly sweet, tasty strawberries and it melted in your mouth! Haven't tried anything else from Susan Lawrence, but if this cake represents their bakery quality, I'd recommend coming here for any special occasion. Enjoy!

This is a very delayed review for our wonderful wedding September 29, 2018 that was provided by Susan Lawrence Catering! Mark prepared an incredibly thoughtful menu including getting-ready snacks, hors d'oeuvres, dinner, desserts, and our exquisite wedding cake! Kelly and Laura acted as wedding planners, attending several meetings, organizing the vendors, and generally putting the bride (me) at ease! Everything could not have gone more smoothly from planning the event to having my dreams come to fruition! I wholeheartedly recommend Susan Lawrence for any catered event!

Great place for pastries and cakes. There's no real convenient place to park, and the center of Chappaqua is almost always congested. It is a very cute store inside, and the staff is welcoming and helpful. When it is busy it works on a "take a number" basis, which could be more clearly explained upon entering. It can get quite busy at times. Aside from all of the excellent dessert options, they also offer food which is quite delicious if a bit pricey.
The prices wouldn't bother me given the lack of decent bakeries in the region except, for whatever reason, they do not accept American Express, which has been annoying on multiple visits.

Lovely cafe with excellent foods. And a nice selection to choose everything from specialty prepared salads and entrees to pastries and croissants, etc. They do a great job of catering as well. Loss of a star for definitely being overpriced when compared to similar types of establishments. But they are the only game in town of this type of store and are in an upscale and affluent area - so they can get away with the pricing.

Amazing amazing amazing! I'm not a fan of the taste of fondant but I loved the way the fondant tasted from them! The cake it self tasted amazing! Let's not for get what a amazing job they did decorating it I couldn't be happier to how they created my cakes! I asked for 2 customized cakes for my nephews 1st birthday and my mothers birthday and they came out better then I thought! They looked so cute! Not to forget the friendly and very helpful staff and how cute it looks inside as well!

A colleague and I were in Chappaqua for a meeting and needed to find a place for lunch. We wandered into Susan Lawrence. It's a fancy bakery/bistro with lots of baked items, salads and prepared foods. There are a few tables where you can sit down to eat. I had a small order of chicken salad with Cesar dressing and a small order of spaghetti squash.
I couldn't taste any seasonings in either item. The spaghetti squash had a bechamel type of sauce on it and was a little creamy. The chicken salad didn't have that much dressing but the chicken tasted very fresh and was properly cooked. I was just expecting a more savory flavor in my food. I would try it again if I'm back in Chappaqua but I would order a sandwich.
