Welcome to House of Broel's Victorian Mansion and Wedding Chapel, an architectural gem that is an impressive feat of engineering. In addition to being beautiful, the house is also very interesting. The original two story home built in 1850 was elevated in 1884 by Wm. Renaud, who added the magnificent first floor as a spacious setting for family weddings, receptions and parties.

My husband Matt and I held our wedding reception at your mansion and I just wanted to let you know that we thought everything was wonderful. We have received so many compliments from our guests about everything from the ambiance to the food. Everyone we have spoken to has said that it was one of the most fun wedding receptions they have been to.
Ms. Broel started her business in New Orleans over 35 years ago by making dresses to order for her clients. This came easy to a woman who could sew before she learned to write. After buying her first re-orderable dress line, the rest became fashion history. Moving from a small store on St. Charles Avenue, she purchased a sadly neglected antebellum mansion further up the street and restored the home to its previous majesty.

All I can say is, AMAZING! We renewed our vows for our 25th wedding anniversary on May 3, 2022. I wanted a simple, elegant, intimate ceremony and the House of Broel delivered. They assisted me and made sure I was comfortable. Ms. Bonnie Broel was very nice and smiled the entire time we were there. It took so much pressure off of me because I didn't have to plan the details. I'm so glad I found this full service venue. It was wonderful!

I left House of Broel feeling offended and with no desire of hosting my wedding at such a venue. Bonnie Broel's interaction with us was tacky and insensitive at best, and prejudiced in nature at worst. Upon arrival, my fiance and I were greeted by the owner, Bonnie who seemed surprised to find two Black women standing in front of her. I introduced myself, and explained that the lady next to me was my fiance.
She showed us to our seats and provided a packet of wedding information. She told us to have a look in the photo books on the side table to our left, then opened a cabinet and pulled out an additional book. She said "this was my favorite same sex wedding." We exchanged a glance and a small giggle, and continued to flip through. She continued "will you both be dressing as brides?" We shared another glance, and responded that yes we were both going to be wearing gowns.
We discussed catering and other details, when we came upon a flyer for the preferred DJ. We inquired about using our own band or DJ to which she replied "we have an African American DJ. He'll play the type of music y'all listen to. The music for you people. His name is Chris. He's great" She then proceeded to walk way from our appointment (for at least the 3rd time at this point) without excusing herself, and left us alone in the sitting room. We decided we were no longer interested in doing business with this venue, who is seemingly ignorant to handling non-traditional couples.

We used the house of Broel for our wedding, what an amazing venue, team, and experience. From the beginning, Madam Broel and Denise make your wedding planning easy and seamless. They literally usher you through the whole experience, relieving any stressors that are normally associated with wedding events. The venue is absolutely gorgeous. They setup anything and everything you can think of from the photographer, cake cutting, music, etc. Denise and Madam Broel are gems and easily made our wedding day priceless and a fairytale.

I got married here on February 29. From the beginning, Ms. Bonnie and Ms. Denise were amazing! We live in Baton Rouge and my dad lives in New York and unfortunately, there were some payment problems on our end that resulted in a lot of phone tag. They did everything they could to accommodate the payment problems we were experiencing with the credit cards and were extremely understanding.
They really went above and beyond to help us and we can't say how appreciative we are! They left the Mardi Gras decorations up (which the out of state guests especially LOVED!) and people couldn't stop telling me how beautiful the place is. The food was wonderful, the staff made sure my husband and I had a break to eat, and they were constantly checking in with us to make sure everything went well.
The DJ they recommended did a fantastic job at reading the room and playing music accordingly. I would recommend them to anyone, especially people who (like me) are very disorganized and might feel nervous about planning a wedding. I loved my wedding at House of Broel and everyone who works there is spectacular!

One of the obscure highlights of my trip. For a modest entry fee up you can have a personal tour of the grounds, and the elaborate mind and life of Madame Broel. The dollhouses are a work of art and truly and example of how to absolutely crush a hobby and turn it into something others want to participate in. The dresses she made are exquisite as well, and each one on display has a backstory.

I recently took a tour of House of Broel and enjoyed it immensely. First, Bonnie Broel is an absolute hoot. I wish I could have put her in my purse and taken her back to New York with me. Loved her! I imagined a casual, chatty saunter around home, but her tour is engineered with military precision - she knows just what she wants to say and the best path through the rooms for maximum reveals and drama. She's thought about it.
The home is gorgeous and well-tended. The decorations are perfectly over-the-top. The dollhouses are voluminous and painstakingly detailed. The dress collection is beautiful. Her life is fascinating. Overall, this is great if you like off-the-beaten path, creative, quirky activities. A must for Atlas Obscura types.

Me and my fiance have booked and been paying our monthly payments for the venue because our wedding is October 12 2018. So that's a whole year way. We ended up deciding to elope and have a more intimate wedding. We asked to have a little intimate wedding there and she could just give us back the $300 difference and she said no. I only asked because we won't have the big attendance we were hoping for.
So why pay and do so much for just a partu of 15 if that. She had a very nasty attitude eith us so instead of arguing I asked for a full refund and she said no because she doesn't give any refunds. I asked her so in all your many years u have never given any transactions? You can't be serious she was very mean and very rude. She treated us like we weren't even people but just another dollar. I mean this is my wedding day just not another business transaction. And I thought she was a really nice lady I guess not. I wish I could give the a big fat zero.

We live in SC, and my daughter wanted a destination wedding in New Orleans. After reading the review from Jai' H., I want to address some of what he said. I was never in doubt as to what I needed to do for payment, before the wedding and the day of. It was even printed on every receipt that she sent to me! She was also easy to work with, although she has definite ideas of what works well in her venue, as she should. Having said that, we altered what we thought we wanted, and did it her way - decided that if we were going to have a New Orleans wedding, who knew more about it than her!
She was also clear about choosing a bakery for the cake - she gave a choice of two, and we chose Haydel's. We could not have been more pleased. Her venue is beautiful and the attendants were professional and wonderful to work with. We felt like everything was under control from the minute we walked in. They made us relaxed and let us know that they were there to make everything go smoothly.
Our time was from 2pm - 5:30, and they had another wedding at 7:00 pm. Our bus was late to arrive, yet they never acted like they were in a hurry to get rid of us. All in all, a very nice affair, and worth the money. Food was very good. Bartenders were also wonderful.

We chose the House of Broel to renew our vows for our 30th anniversary. Arranging things after only seeing Internet pictures and talking with Bonnie on the phone from Houston was a little nerve-wracking, but I couldn't have made a better selection. I was immediately relieved and comfortable when we got there and so pleased with everything. Thank you all for a beautiful day!

In New Orleans the party doesn't stop, but at the House of Broel, they'll shut off the lights and kick you out when they're ready to go. A tip to keep in mind: have an after party location decided! The space is lovely. It has a very antique NOLA feel. If you're looking for culture, this is a great spot for it! House of Broel is located on the St. Charles streetcar line, with steps leading up to the entrance.
There is also a beautiful lit courtyard with tables and chairs in the rear. The bartenders are courteous and heavy handed with a good selection to choose from. Overall, the staff was attentive and friendly. There are several rooms that separate the dance floor from a place to kick back with your cocktail and some small bites while you chat with others in attendance. There is also a bridal room upstairs for any needs in wardrobe changes or just a moment to take a short rest. It's a nice place for an event!

I attended a wedding here, and the site was beautiful. The staff was excellent, and the wedding went off without a hitch. The main drawback was that the reception space inside the house, from the dance floor to the bar to the room where the food was set up, was cramped, and the wedding guests were scattered across a handful of rooms. It was hard to know what was going on from one room to another.
Everything was beautiful, but the layout of the space made the wedding logistically hard to navigate. With everyone milling around and talking, it was easy to get trapped in rooms without a way out.

I've been here for a wedding and a few other events. Its an interesting Victorian house and there are some rather eclectic decorations inside along with the sort of spooky "Doll House Museum." The outside courtyard is a nice space for an event and makes a good wedding spot. This is definitely a uniquely New Orleans location to host any type of event.

The house is gorgeous. They host weddings there, which is cool. (Don't expect to host a whole lot of dancing at your wedding; the "ballroom" is quite small.) As for the tour: I wouldn't spend $10 on that. (Except, I did.) Although our guide was very friendly, I didn't feel that I had the time to look at everything at my own pace. (She even commented that it was "too much to see in one visit.") The doll houses are truly wonderful, though! For around $5, I'd go back, but not for $10.

We recently held our wedding here on a Sat afternoon. I can't say enough about how wonderful the food, the service and the ambience was. It was the best day of our lives thanks to Miss Bonnie Broel and the folks at the House of Broel. We married outside in Ms. Broel's gorgeous courtyard with Jerry Embree playing saxophone during the reception and as the guests arrived. Jerry's band the taste of New orleans played at the reception and all my guests said it was the best and most fun wedding they've ever been to!
The band played in the gorgeous ballroom and I truly felt like a princess! You must see this place to believe how elegant it is! I grew up in Nawlins but live in Ca and can't imagine a more Nawlinsy wedding than we had here! Ms. Broel's mansion is so gorgeous and elegant and she is a real pro who puts you right at ease and knows how to put on a wedding.her package is also very reasonably priced! I couldn't believe it! Thanks so much for all! Debbie and Charlie Dragna!
