I like my Esthetician, Christine, for my eyebrow waxes and I've been a long time guest of Sanctuary Salonspa, even supported them during COVID, but it's ridiculous that we're still paying a COVID surcharge when most salons are no longer doing so. On top of that, we have to put down a CC when making reservations now? I've already heard their explanations but find their business practices excessive. It's keeps me from coming back as often or to try other services but when I do go in, Christine is the best and my go-to.

I've been a long time customer but am now reconsidering. They now require a credit card to hold your appointment. By giving them your credit card, you authorize full payment for your entire service if you have to cancel within 24 hours for any reason other than Covid (which they don't explain). So for all of you mothers with sick kids or busy professionals that get caught up in a busy day, you're out of luck.
That is purely alienating their client base and putting their hard working stylists and estheticians in a horrible position. I asked a few questions and the front desk person was clearly annoyed and tossed me to a manager that made me feel bad for asking a follow up question. On top of the price hike from Covid that never went back down, this is insane. I've never cancelled an appointment within 24 hours but now I feel like I have a gun to my head. Neither the customer or the stylists are being served by this.

I've had several services at this location. After each mediocre service, I've given them the benefit of the doubt and figured that it must've just been the individual that I was assigned for each service, but I was wrong. The last service I had was a massage that was meant to be an hour, but the masseuse was 15 minutes late. I had been sitting and waiting for her to come out, and when she finally did I thought my hour would start from that moment.
When I came out to pay, I was charged the full amount for a one hour massage. I explained that I only had 45 minutes. The person checking me out at the register didn't believe me so she stepped away to speak with the masseuse. When she came back, she told me it was because I was late. I couldn't believe the masseuse would lie like that. I told her that was not the case, and that she could either talk to the people who were there or look at their camera.
It shouldn't have gotten to that point. The woman applied a tiny discount of about $5, and that was it. I still paid over $80. Complete rip off. If a customer is telling you they're unsatisfied with a service, you have to figure out what you can do to make it right. And I honestly wonder if the situation would've been handled differently, had I been white.
As a black woman and a Muslim, I have to always wonder about this, unfortunately. I've had terrible haircuts at this place, my mother has had terrible haircuts at this place, I've had bad massages, and their full body scrub is a joke. I don't know why I gave them so many chances. I guess I was just hoping that each time would be better. Long story short, I don't intend on ever going back and I don't recommend this place to anyone. Update: After management responded to my review, no one ever "reached out." They don't plan to.

Tamora is the BEST EVER. At the end of the day, the actual service is great but it's the STAFF who keep me coming back. Incredibly personable, caring and invested in my overheats. They're not just there to sell me services and products, they put my satisfaction as a current client at the very top of their priority list. I always leave feeling so special and well taken care of.

They completely screwed up my hair. Had me reschedule and told me it was complementary, rest assured. I live an hour away. I went in for my next hair appointment to only have them tell me that they did not book enough time after I called during the week to speak with a manager about how I wanted it fixed. They just called and told me the only way they would fix my hair this coming weekend is if I paid over 200$ On 3.15.22 I would not recommend this place to anyone and cannot believe the poor service I have received. I now have to walk around with faded black and copper toned hair that looks terrible.

I needed Makeup services so I called this spa that I had driven by. I asked if they had a makeup artist with enough experience to do a very glam makeup look. They said yes. I also asked about eyelashes. I told them I needed big fluffy eyelashes to work with my eyelash extensions. They said they had a "wide variety of lashes" and could find something to work for me.
After all these questions I booked an appointment. When I got there to check in, the person called me Renata. How did anyone get Renata when my name is Diana? I should have known things would be all wrong! The makeup artist was late. I waited. I showed her a picture of what I wanted. The colors were pinkish and ivory. She started doing my eyes with gray and Pearl colors.
Then I asked about the lashes. She did not have a variety. Only little ones that would never work with lash extensions. She kept doing my eyes wrong. I then told her to stop. She was not even choosing the right colors! She then told me (after 30 minutes of me being there) that with the makeup she had, she couldn't achieve the look I wanted. Why didn't they tell me when I called?
Why not before she started? Why after wasting 30 minutes of my life? Also, I have tan skin, and all the foundation she had was for fair skin women. Ultimately if you are looking for a "basic" look and you are white, you can go here. If you like glam and you have some color, avoid this place like the plague!

I've been here twice now with others and it's been great each time! The first time my daughter got gel nails and this time my sister got a haircut (because I knew it was so nice from before) and Joan was awesome. We really loved her! She was down to earth, funny, friendly and Joan did a beautiful job! My sister wanted a short haircut and it turned out better than we could have hoped!

I woke up and was trying to find a place to get my nails done before my trip to Mexico and after looking for places online I found this one that was like 4 minutes away from me. I called them and made an appointment for less than an hour later (which was great)! I'm a really picky person when it comes to nails and I wasn't 100% happy with how it was done. Parts of my nail on the side and on top without any color, which was fine since I was avoiding looking at my nails from really close.
But just realized, less than 2 days later that one of my nails is chipped. The whole purpose of getting gel done and having my nails looking good for almost 2 weeks was completely ruined! Definitely not worth it paying $55

They don't listen to what their clients want and are argumentative when you say you're unhappy with the outcome of their service. They were very unprofessional especially the manager. I stupidly went back for a correction of the first stylists toning and haircut mistakes and walked out crying with a worse haircut from the salons manager.
I didn't go back to the first stylist because in my first visit she rushed me out the door since they were closing and they didn't schedule enough time for my appointment, even though when I made it I was clear in what services I wanted and did the same the day of the appointment. While rushing the first stylist didn't cut some of my layers right and to top it off the neck fan she was wearing got caught in my hair!
She almost had to cut a good chunk of my hair off from the back of my head but thankfully she managed to untangle it from the fan. In the second appointment all I wanted was for the toning to be the color I wanted and the choppy layered piece to be fixed with my bangs to be trimmed since the first stylist ran out of time to trim my bangs. The salon manager interpreted that to add face framing, rather than just trimming my bangs, which I didn't ask for and absolutely hate.
The attached photos show a near 5 inch difference in length after my second visit and the salon manager's correction?! I made the second appointment with the manager because I assumed she would know how to cut hair and would care to understand what I wanted. Instead she tried to put all the blame on me being combative every time I tried to explain what happened and what I wanted.
It is my fault that I expected the manager to have an ounce of professionalism, to care to understand what I wanted in a hair cut, and to treat me with respect as a paying client who had visited their salon a couple of times before. Regardless I will never be back and neither will my partner, so they've lost two clients for sure. They refunded the haircut portion but I received no apology from the salon manager for her hair cut mistake and I am fuming they still took $200 of my money for a terrible experience overall. The hair toning will fade in a week again I am sure and I am stuck waiting 6 months+ for my hair to grow out.

I love going to Sanctuary Spa for one reason only and thats Cage N. i have been going to him for almost 3 years now And he is always so motivated to give me the best experience and I walk out feeling great about my hair every time. So much so that i make it a point to see him when I am back in Minneapolis even after having moved to the east coast.

It takes the right person to work in a profession where most of your clients show up having a bad hair day. I made the appointment the night before via Sanctuary's website and even scored a great discount ($20 for a cut!). Sanctuary has been in our neighborhood for years - always smells pretty as you walk by - and I was finally going to get in and have a look-see.
As luck would have it, a bridal party was in that morning and the salon was busy, maybe busier than I've ever seen. My stylist was tied up with that, and fortunately Miranda stepped in to help me out. Between a grown out cut and Minnesota winter, things were not looking good on my head. I feel that Miranda took very good care of me and my hair, and I left the salon with a much more manageable style. It was a treat to stop by and I recommend the service to anyone looking for a haircut that rivals a quick spa getaway.

I've been waking and driving past Sanctuary for months as it is around the corner from my apartment. I always have meant to stop in or make an appointment but have never gotten around to it. I booked an appointment for an eyebrow wax, and was able to book online which I love. There is a "last minute deals" option which you can select from some limited openings at a discounted price.
My wax was $15. You do have to prepay but it's a really good deal and then your appointment is booked! (Even as last minute as a half am hour from now which is great for procrastinators like me!) The eyebrow wax was amazing - the most relaxing I've ever had. They have individual spa rooms and you can lay down and relax. Jenny did my eyebrows and she was super sweet and did an awesome job.
I even picked up some shampoo and conditioner which was reasonable priced. Everything is Aveda products and they have a really large selection. Great experience! I'll be back soon the next time I need my hair done, nails done, or eyebrows done!

I was a bit worried about finding a stylist when I moved to Minneapolis from DC, but Hailey proved to be one of the most talented hairstylists I have had in years. She really listened to what I wanted, and went over everything with me before we started the haircut. I could really tell she is passionate about what she does, and it shows when she works.
She was focused, and cut with skill. Overall, I am very satisfied, and have booked my next appointment in 8 weeks. The salon front staff seemed to be very kind, so I am surprised to see some less than stellar reviews.

Today I has a great experience! I just moved back to Minneapolis after 3 years in Los Angeles. I will admit, after having some great stylist in LA I was nervous about the Midwest quality and skill level being behind the times. I took a photo to Taylor and explained what I wanted, she achieved exactly that and fully understood my needs! She was not only highly skilled, she was super pleasant and I enjoyed the time there!
The cut and color was spot on! I also had waxing services from Sara who was very sweet, fast and made a somewhat unpleasant experience enjoyable. What I liked about both Sara and Taylor is they both took time to analyze my individual needs, and made sure I was happy with my treatment! The salon and spa areas are really clean, the staff is friendly and I can't wait to go back!

I purchased a LivingSocial deal for a haircut, conditioning treatment and pedicure, and then I also added on a waxing treatment, and it was well worth the value and it was a truly transforming experience. When I arrived, I had just had a stressful work day and spent almost an hour battling rush hour traffic to get to my appointment on time. I arrived on time and was a little stressed out, and it turned out that my waxing appointment was running late, which irked me at first since I had been so careful to get to my appointment on time. However, it gave me time to sit and drink some tea and relax, which made me feel much better.
I was concerned this would throw off my hair/pedi appointment, but the timing worked out perfectly. Bella, my esthetician/waxing specialist was excellent. She made the entire process as comfortable and painless as possible. She was friendly, thorough, and my wax was perfect. She gave me great educational tips on how to prevent ingrown hairs and for keeping everything in looking great.
She is a jack of all trades, doing everything from waxing, facials, massage therapy and more, she also said she was learning on how to do eyelash extensions! Taylor Rose did my pedicure and my haircut. I know I was her last client of the day, but she didn't rush my service at all, I felt completely pampered. She was super nice, bubbly, and a total pro.
She is really good at her job and has a great personality for working with clients. She took off exactly the right amount, and I really liked how she gave me product recommendations for my hair type/color and styling tips as she did my blowout. She even invited me to come back for a blowout the next week for my birthday! She was fantastic! I am a little new to the Twin Cities and hadn't found "my salon" yet, since I'm a little weird about my hair, but I loved Sanctuary and will definitely be back, I couldn't imagine going anywhere else after that exeptional service. I left Sanctuary Salon and Spa feeling like a new woman!

Got a manicure and it chipped off in huge chunks 2 days later. They didn't know how to trim my cuticles and butchered them. I will never go back there. Horrible management. Had a welcome to the neighborhood coupon that didn't have any terms/minimum price you had to spend on it and the manager wouldn't let me use it with a manicure because they said it would be "too greatly discounted". Ummm that's FALSE advertising! If you can't afford to have customers use those coupons don't give them out!

I am blaming this review a quarter on myself. It was a Sunday morning and trying to fit "haircut" into the next two weeks with the holiday schedule was simply not going to fit. I have gone to the Juut in Uptown and the Aveda in Gavidae and love them, so after calling around to any salon with an opening that day I was pretty pleased with! There is a virtue of patience.
I would hate to say names, but this was the most awkward hour and a half cut I have received. I needed a trim, about an inch and a half, off of "getting longer" hair. The man giving me a cut was a "new talent" so luckily this cut did not hurt my wallet too much. However had I not been late for a class after the cut, I was contemplating asking for my money back.
The man cutting my hair told me stories about how basically beauty school was his last resort after his career in music did not pan out, and how he had not been accepted into the salons of his choice. That does not make one feel confident while someone is holding scissors by your locks. The entire time he grabbed up pieces of my hair, over and over as it I assume kept slipping between his fingers.
This cut took for.ever. and once I wrapped up I looked at the floor and literally could not find any hair that he had actually snipped. When I showed a little discontent, he asked a different man to take a once-over and the second guy was pretty arrogant, told me it was a "completely level cut" and they didn't have time that day to fix it or take off more length. My stomach curls a bit thinking about this. and next time I will learn to go back to my tried and true salon.

Just visited Sanctuary this weekend (on my birthday) with a Living Social deal I paid for. I do feel like I need to qualify my entire review with the understanding that my expectations should probably not be too high because I know I did not pay full price with this deal. That being said, I was disappointed with my experience overall. When someone finally acknowledged me at the front desk, the woman seemed confused and looked like she had just rolled out of bed.
I guess I would just expect polished looking people to be working at a salon. My massage from Denise was good. If she worked elsewhere, I might go back to her. My manicure and pedicure was a pretty poor experience. The combination took much longer than should be expected. The nail therapist was very personable, but she cut my toe at the very beginning and I started bleeding.
She then forgot about the fact that she had cut my toe and filed it again later in the service. Quite painful. The quality of the overall manicure was just okay. I got home and looked at my polish and would have expected close to perfection for the amount of time it took. Lastly, the spa itself is in need of a good cleaning. There were dirty footprints on the floor of the massage room and the carpet everywhere looked like it hadn't been vacuumed in months.
Not the best presentation for a spa. I would definitely not pay full price for services. Despite the price I paid for the deal, I still wouldn't go back even for the discounted price.

Frankly I am trying to find some way to generate words to describe how poor all aspects of my visit other than the massage and facial I had during my "Bliss" package were. The massage therapist and esthetician were both lovely, but the rest of the staff at the spa-especially the manager!-seemed to have some sort of issue with having actual spa patrons(?). Perplexing, since they could have just told my friend and I that they did not want to take on an appointment of that sort when we scheduled two weeks in advance. OR just put on a happy face, it's not like it's that hard to not treat others like garbage.
Maybe I will edit this and add more detail later but really I don't think recounting the situation would be good for my blood pressure. Especially considering that Sonja B. wrote them a diplomatic email explaining why we were gravely disappointed with our spa day and they have so far not responded at all-it has been a week.

FAAABULOUUSS! Part of being beautiful is feeling beautiful and the Sanctuary sets the tone. I decided to take a Wintery stroll to Eat Street after getting my fresh haircut at V.I.P. and found the sanctuary. I must have been in a good mood because first impressions were sad -even with the MN chill The delayed, half-smile, no greeting I initially received still leaves me a bit raw.
The culprit: Tall, then, short bob wearing blonde. Maybe she is new. On the up & up: I was soon taken care of by a lovely hair director who worked with me as I chose my services and set my appointments. She gave me a tour of the entire salonspa right away. **I've had to ask for this at other spas** She has fabulous hair, makeup and energy! Now that is what MN SHOULD be made of! POC: I probably would not come here for a haircut (see my V.I.P review) but I hear the hair color is smooth and sexy. Recommendations (especially if it is your first brow/body wax): Eyebrows: Vee did a miraculous work on my brows.
The most detailed cosmetologist I have ever experienced! Skill skill skill & STYLE. I may divorce my threader for Vee. Body waxing: Mo did some "oh my stars" quick, fairly painless wax work! This was my first time waxing anything besides the brows and she hooked me up! Comforting, funny, informative, and fast! Hair: I was so mesmerized by her tattoos & service I didn't add her name to my memory -maybe something with an A. She's a hair director. Note: My hair is thick curly and wavy EVERYWHERE so there is probably hope for you.;)
The culprit: Tall, then, short bob wearing blonde.
