Catherine (Cathy) Reaves started her violin studies at the age of 10 in DeLand, Florida. As there was no public school string program offered, she began her orchestral training with the Stetson University Orchestra at the age of 11. This opportunity fostered her desire to pursue a career as an orchestral violinist.
The following is a partial list of our extensive repertoire. If you're engaging the Mid-America String Quartet for a wedding, this list may assist you in your musical selections. Most are not performed in their entirety, but they should give you a general idea of each piece. If you have any trouble playing them, please contact us.
Mid-America and Cathy Reaves made our entire wedding ceremony. We wanted to re-constitute about 10 songs from The Nutcracker for 15 musicians. It was a big vision that required re-writing the pieces for the specific musicians the church was able to accommodate space-wise, and multiple practices. They played a 30 minute prelude, which was like a private concert, and then played throughout the entire ceremony.
What is the advantage of choosing a string quartet rather than some other ensemble? The string quartet, comprised of two violins, one viola, and one cello, is the most widely recognized of chamber ensembles. It offers a very full and pleasing sound, providing a soprano, bass, and two inner voices. While the string quartet can easily be heard, it's also possible to talk over it at receptions and parties as opposed to many other instrumental combinations. How far in advance should we book your group?
